The first review for Jim’s Jarhead Jerky will focus on a 3 ounce/85 gram bag of their Teriyaki flavored beef jerky. This flavor is described as being Jim’s signature flavor. The jerky bag was kindly submitted for review by the owner, Jim Ewen.
This Jim’s Jarhead Jerky brand name is distributed under the name of Jim’s Jarhead Jerky LLC, and is located in Medford, New Jersey. It started with Jim Ewen, a former Marine Corps Veteran, sending jerky to his son-in-law while deployed inside Iraq back in 2009. What started out as a 2 pound care package from home turned out to be 50 pounds, then hundreds of pounds. All sent to men and women serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. This Jim’s Jarhead Jerky brand was officially launched in 2009. Jim’s Jarhead Jerky are involved with some organizations such as Operation Yellow Ribbon South Jersey who help promote home events for local veterans, and America 4R Marines.

The beef used here is guaranteed to be ethically raised, meaning free of growth hormones or additional antibiotics. These cattle also are guaranteed to have at least partial free range access to roam about. As a result, the highest ingredient rating that can be awarded is a Very Good (9/10) rating.
This liquid marinade is comprised of an alright teriyaki marinade sauce, two soy sauces, which includes a respectable naturally brewed soy sauce, water, and a healthy hot pepper sauce.
Some healthy ingredients are used such as black pepper, garlic, and ground ginger.
The sugar level is acceptable at 3 grams of sugar per 28 grams of jerky. It is unfortunate to see the sweetener high fructose corn syrup (HFCS) used in the teriyaki sauce. The salt level is high at 500mg of salt per 28 grams of jerky. Our preference is 350mg of salt or less per 28 grams of jerky.
This jerky does not qualify to be sodium nitrite free, as similar unhealthy potassium sorbate is used as a preservative. Admirably, this flavor has no MSG added.

Taste Review
Written by guest jerky reviewer Stéphane Leclerc
This is a very well crafted jerky, as it has a great aroma and texture and wonderful flavors. The texture of this jerky is lean, nice and tender and the aroma is equally as enjoyable. The teriyaki is very present with its sweetness and taste of soya. There are good notes of spiciness, great meaty flavor and a very noticeable black pepper finish. I like how the spiciness nicely complements the sweetness. The black pepper adds a great ending to these developing flavors like a juicy and plump cherry mounts and gradually enters a decadent chocolate sundae as they are slowly melting into one.
Although a lot of seasoning fell to the bottom of the bag, the flavor is very consistent throughout every strip. I find the seasoning penetrated the meat with all of its might and impregnated every fibers of its being into a gratifying and amazing explosion of pleasure and pure bliss.
I will certainly recommend this fabulous jerky and I rate it 10/10 with absolutely no reservation.
You can purchase three 3 ounce/85 gram bags online for $26.50. That works out to $2.94 an ounce, which rates as a slightly expensive price. Shipping is included in the price.
