Ingredient Review
Beef, Water, Salt, Corn Syrup, Cane Sugar, Natural Spices, Dextrose, Garlic, Latic Acid Starter Culture, Sodium Nitrite, Stuff in a Sodium Nitrite.
The beef used is not guaranteed to be free of growth hormones or additional antibiotics. Also, the beef is not guaranteed to have at least partial free range access to graze on grass. As a result, the highest ingredient rating that can be awarded is a Good (8/10) rating.
Some healthy ingredients added are spices and garlic.
The sugar level is great at 0 grams of sugar per 26 grams of sugar. The salt level is acceptable at 270mg of salt per 26 grams of beef stick.
This beef stick does not qualify to have no sodium nitrite as sodium nitrite is used outright as a preservative to lose a rating. Admirably, this beef stick qualifies to have no MSG added.
Decent (7/10) – Ingredient Rating

DEARBORN BRAND – ORIGINAL BEEF STICK
Written by guest meat stick reviewer Paul Rekker
When I rip open the packaging for the beef stick I smell nothing. The beef stick is rather soft and flaccid, and maybe it needs a Viagra pill or two.
However, things take a sharp turn for the better when I bite into the beef stick. I am met with the tastes of salt, pepper, garlic, and vinegar, even though I don’t see vinegar on the ingredient list. I taste almost no sweet whatsoever, which to me is a blessing.
This original beef stick is a delectable and delicious morsel of flavor “heaven”. The only ever-so-slight issue I may have with this beef stick is that the collagen casing does not “snap” when I bite it. It is also scrumptious and addictive, just as beef sticks were intended to be. A 9.5/10 for me, which would be a 10/10 when you round up. Gentlemen?
Here is what Mark had to say about this Original beef stick flavor from Dearborn Brand: “Thanks for the candid taste review Paul. While Stéphane participated in this review, he did not produce a taste review. He did state that this beef stick tasted very good but did not articulate a 9 or 10 taste rating. Myself, I too, enjoyed this beef stick. I would have liked to see the taste of onion and garlic more in the forefront, but that is not a requirement for an original flavor.”
“Regarding the texture, the snap is minimal, but there is some snap. A tasty sourness comes from the lactic acid. The salt level is good, and I agree that there is minimal sweetness present. In fact, the overall taste profile blends in very well. With Paul, I, and presumably Stéphane all in the 9 or 10 taste rating range with no clear cut problems, an Excellent (10/10) taste rating will be awarded.”
This 0.9 ounce/26 gram meat stick costs $1.79, which equates to $1.99 an ounce. That rates as an expensive price.
Excellent (10/10) – Taste Rating
Bag Review
The plastic bag has everything imprinted directly on the front and nothing on the back. This bag is vacuum sealed, the best way to keep a product fresh tasting.
One slogan printed on this bag could be “Est 1946”. There are no facts printed on this bag.
The only missing minor bag category is the meat stick weight not stated in grams. To the credit of Dearborn Brand, a phone number is provided for customer inquiries.
