Taste Review
1ST PHORM – ORIGINAL SMOKEHOUSE MEAT STICK
Written by guest jerky reviewer Paul Rekker
When I bite the top of the packaging for the meat stick, I smell natural beef. This is a huge meat stick, one of the largest and thickest we have reviewed to date. The meat stick is slightly oily, and it has the same hue as most other meat sticks.
When I bite into this meat stick, I am a bit disappointed that there is absolutely no “snap” to the collagen casing. Overall, the meat stick is softer than I would have liked.
The first flavor to jump out is the salt, which is at a high level, but, to me, within reason. I also taste pepper at a mediocre level, not too intense, pretty much the same as the garlic level. Natural beef resonates throughout this taste experience, it is a decent tasting meat stick. I haven’t mentioned the sweetness because I don’t really pick up much, if any, sweetness.
I cannot say that this meat stick is blowing me away, but it is tasty enough to warrant an 8/10, all things considered. Gentlemen?
Here is what Mark had to say about this Original Smokehouse meat stick flavor from 1st Phorm: “Thanks Paul for the honest taste review. I generally agree with most of what you said. One thing I disagree with is the texture having absolutely no ‘snap’. There is some ‘snap’ but not all that much. The majority of meat sticks are around one ounce, but this one is two ounces, and it shows. The length is on par with other meat sticks, but the girth is about twice the size, fulfilling 1st Phorm commitment to deliver protein.”
“The overall taste profile is well balanced with no single flavor standing out other than the saltiness. While this meat stick is soft, it still has substance, and it doesn’t feel like you are eating mush. This meat stick is enjoyable and addictive to a certain extent. Like Paul, I can’t say there is a ‘wow’ factor. With Paul at an 8 and myself also at a solid 8, a Good (8/10) taste rating will be awarded.”
This 2 ounce/56 gram bag of meat stick sold for $3.00. That equates to $1.50 per ounce, which rates as a cheap price.
