The next review on Sophia’s Survival Food will focus on a 2 ounce/56 gram bag of their original flavored 100% grass-fed beef jerky. This bag was kindly submitted for review by Chief Survivalist Sophia Dubrovina.
Sophia’s Survival Food is distributed under the same name of Sophia’s Survival Food, and it is located in Santa Clara, California. Sophia found it challenging to find a healthy brand of jerky, so she started making her own jerky. Soon her jerky became a hit with her friends and family. In 2011, Sophia officially launched this Sophia’s Survival Food jerky brand. Only 100% grass-fed beef and all natural ingredients are used. Sophia’s Survival Food is Whole 30 Approved, paleo friendly, and there are currently four different flavors for sale.
Ingredient Review
Ingredients: Grass-Fed Beef, Lemon Juice, Redmond Unrefined Sea Salt, Garlic, Black Pepper, Cayenne Pepper.
This 100% grass-fed beef is sourced from Richards Grassfeed Beef, where Sophia makes it a focus to source beef from small ranchers in the USA. The jerky qualifies to be ethically raised, meaning no growth hormones or additional antibiotics are given. Also, this jerky qualifies to have free range access.
The liquid marinade used here is just healthy lemon juice. Lemons are loaded with vitamin C, and aids in tenderizing the beef.
There is absolutely no sugar used in this jerky. The salt level is low at 200mg of salt per 28 grams of jerky.
This jerky qualifies to have no sodium nitrite, or any other similar unhealthy preservative. Instead, mineral rich minimally processed Redmond Real Salt is the main preservative. With more kudos to Sophia’s Survival Food, this jerky has no MSG added.

Taste Review

The Sophia’s Survival Food – Spicy 100% Grass-Fed Beef Jerky is a hit. It is delicious and if this is survival food, sign me up and I am off to the Amazon with a spot light and a stick!
As I opened the bag, I was delighted by the lemony aroma. I chewed my first piece and I immediately tasted the acidity of the lemon and a slight saltiness. The black pepper and the garlic are also at a light level followed by a gentle kiss from the natural sweetness of this beautiful 100% Grass Fed Beef. The natural flavor of the beef nicely dominates this flavor.
After a few more bites, the black pepper, cayenne pepper and garlic are slowly building up. I really appreciate the tang and freshness of the lemon juice as it brightens up the flavor and complement the aromatics. The spiciness is not overdone and it translates into a light tingling sensation on the tongue and slowly increases with each bite.
These beef strips are medium to small in size and they are thinly sliced. The texture is rather on the dry side and still easily chewable. The thin nature of these strips really works with the marinade to permeate each and every fiber of the meat.
Overall, these great seasonings and flavors complement well the beautiful natural flavor of this high quality meat. Sophia’s Survival Food – Spicy 100% Grass-Fed Beef Jerky will certainly be honored by amateurs and everyone passionate about great beef and simple and delectable flavors. I personally find this flavor to be very pleasant and quite addictive.
I ended up finishing my bag before I even knew it. I highly recommend and rate this fun snack 10/10.
A 2 ounce/56 gram bag of jerky sells online for $6.99, which works out to $3.50 an ounce. That would rate as an expensive price.

The second bag displayed is a 1 ounce bag of this spicy flavor also submitted for review. The last two bags displayed at the bottom are 1 ounce and 2 ounce spicy flavored bags purchased online in 2012 for $3.99 and $6.99 respectively.
This non-resealable plastic bag has a label affixed to the front, and a sticker on the back. The Sophia’s Survival Food logo has some fancy calligraphy.
There are no slogans printed on this bag. Some facts printed on this bag are “Made With 100% Grass-Fed Beef”, “Paleo Friendly Beef Jerky”, “Gluten Free”, and “Soy Free”.
The only bag category missing is a blurb printed about Sophia’s Survival Food and/or this spicy flavor.
