JerkyPro – Peppered 100% Grass-Fed Beef Jerky

Friday, December 1, 2017 Leave a Comment

JerkyPro - Peppered 100% Grass-Fed Beef JerkyThe first review for JerkyPro will be on a 3 ounce/85 gram bag of their Peppered flavored 100% grass-fed beef jerky. The jerky bag was kindly submitted for review by the JerkyPro Team.

This JerkyPro brand is distributed under the name of JerkyPro, LLC., and is located in Chillicothe, Ohio. JerkyPro was officially established in late 2015 by military/paramilitary veterans. Their jerky is manufactured in Rexburg, Idaho, in a facility that has 20,000 square feet of operating space, and employs 27 people. While JerkyPro does not prefer one target audience over another, they are actively engaged in xGames, eSports, MMA, competitive motorsports, and military efforts. Earlier this year, JerkyPro was named the TasteTV “Top Artisan Jerky Award Winner” for 2017.

Ingredient Review

Ingredients: Beef, Brown Sugar, Water, Salt, Apple Juice, Honey, Lemon Juice, Granulated Garlic, Granulated Onion, Black Pepper, Hickory Smoked Flavoring, Sodium Nitrite.

JerkyPro - Peppered 100% Grass-Fed Beef JerkyThis jerky uses 100% grass-fed beef, the way nature intended. These cattle are raised ethically, meaning they are not fed growth hormones, or additional antibiotics. There is also some free range access for the cattle to roam about.

JerkyPro - Peppered 100% Grass-Fed Beef JerkyThe liquid marinade used here is comprised of water, healthy apple juice, locally sourced homegrown Ohio honey, and healthy lemon juice.

Some healthy ingredients are used such as granulated garlic, granulated onion, and black pepper. Some people call black pepper the King of Spices, which offers numerous health benefits.

The sugar level is high at 7 grams of sugar per 28 grams of jerky. Our preference is 3 grams of sugar or less per 28 grams of jerky. The salt level is fairly high at 430mg of salt per 28 grams of jerky. However, that is negated because granulated sea salt is used, where salt levels are therefore ignored.

This jerky does not qualify to have no nitrites, as sodium nitrite is used as a preservative. Admirably, this flavor does qualify to be MSG free.

Good (8/10) – Ingredient Rating

Taste Review

These strips of jerky are mainly large in size, and sliced to a medium thickness. The texture is more tender than dry, and it is easy to chew. There are no visible signs of fat, and handing this jerky leaves no oily residue on your fingers.

The first taste detected is a good level of black pepper. Other flavors that jump out are salt, plus light levels of garlic and onion. Mixed in is a moderately strong level of sweetness, where both the honey and brown sugar are detectable. Arguably, this flavor is a bit too sweet tasting

In the background, there is a subtle hickory flavor. It’s refreshing to try jerky without any soy flavor. Overall, while very pleasant tasting with enough black pepper flavor, but would more accurately be named a sweet peppered flavor.

A 3 ounce/85 gram bag sells online for $7.99. That works out to $2.66 an ounce, which rates as an average price. Ordering a 1 pound bag order puts you into the cheap price range. This JerkyPro peppered flavor is surely recommended if you enjoy the taste of black pepper, along with some sweetness.

Very Good (9/10) – Taste Rating

Bag Review

This clear resealable bag has a label affixed to the front, and nothing on the back. The JerkyPro logo is a cow’s head on a totally pumped up human body.

There are no slogans printed on this bag. One fact displayed is “Made in America With U.S. Beef”.

The only bag categories missing are a bar code, and a blurb about JerkyPro and this peppered flavor.

Decent (7/10) – Bag Rating
