Jurassic Jerky – Inferno-X Beef Jerky

Saturday, August 3, 2019 Leave a Comment

Jurassic Jerky - Inferno-X Beef JerkyJurassic Jerky is described as being made by artisan Chefs to ensure that every step of the process creates the most flavorful, tender jerky in the world! Working in partnership with USDA with a time-tested family recipe that’s been refined over the years, to make Jurassic Jerky the best Jerky in the world! This Jurassic Jerky brand of jerky was officially launched in 2017. Commendably, a portion of every bag sold goes to charities who support wounded combat vets and families of fallen law enforcement officers. As with all Jurassic Jerky, it has no preservatives or MSG. Jurassic Jerky is distributed under the name of JJD USA, and they are located in Colton, California.

The first review on Jurassic Jerky will focus on a 3 ounce/85 gram bag of their Inferno-X flavored beef jerky. This flavor is described as being seasoned with a special blend of Real Carolina Reaper Peppers and tasty spices; Sweet with Heat! The bag was kindly submitted for review by Shawn Travis.

Ingredient Review

Ingredients: Beef, Teriyaki Sauce (Soy Sauce (Water, Wheat, Soybeans, Salt), Wine, High Fructose Corn Syrup, Water, Vinegar, Salt, Spices, Onion Powder, Succinic Acid, Garlic Powder, Sodium Benzoate: Less Than 1/10 of 1% As A Preservative.), Brown Sugar, Carolina Reaper, Cayenne, Pineapple, Worcestershire Sauce (Distilled White Vinegar, Molasses, Sugar, Water, Salt, Onions, Anchovies, Garlic, Cloves, Tamarind Extract, Natural Flavorings, Chili Pepper Extract), Lemon Juice (Water, Lemon Concentrate, 1/10 of 1% Sodium Benzoate, Garlic, Ghost Pepper, Ground Pepper, Sea Salt, Ginger.    Allergen Warnings: Soy, Wheat, Anchovies

Jurassic Jerky - Inferno-X Beef JerkyThe beef used here is guaranteed to be ethically raised 98% of the time, meaning free of growth hormones or additional antibiotics. There is not a 100% guarantee offered because sometimes the beef used cannot keep up with the demand. These cattle are not guaranteed to have at least partial free range access to roam about. As a result, the highest ingredient rating that can be awarded is a Very Good (9/10) rating.

This liquid marinade here is comprised of a fair teriyaki sauce, healthy lemon juice, and a well respected brand of Worcestershire sauce. It is disappointing to see that the teriyaki sauce used the highly processed unhealthy sweetener high fructose corn syrup (HFCS) to lose a rating.

There are healthy ingredients added such as garlic, black pepper, pineapple, and ginger. The heat is achieved using Carolina reaper pepper, cayenne pepper, and ghost pepper. Hot peppers are healthy if eaten in moderation, which flushes toxins out of the body.

The sugar level is acceptable at 3 gram of sugar per 28 grams of jerky. The salt level is quite low at only 115mg of salt per 28 grams of jerky.

This jerky does qualify to have no sodium nitrite, or any other similar unhealthy preservatives. Admirably, this jerky qualifies to have no MSG added.

Good (8/10) – Ingredient Rating

Taste Review

Written by guest jerky reviewer Paul Rekker

When I open the bag, I smell juice and heat. The jerky is relatively large in size, is sliced somewhat thin, is soft and dry, and is very easy to chew. There is no oily residue left on your fingers.

When I bite into the jerky, I taste salt, pepper, garlic, a juice, I’m guessing pineapple juice, and then the heat kicks in. And what a tasty addition that is. You can see copious amounts of chili flakes all over the pieces of jerky, and they definitely deliver, in spades. I must take sips of my beer in between each bite, in order to help alleviate the intense heat licking around my tongue and palette. Holy cow gents, this jerky is a frickin’ inferno inside my mouth. This jerky is definitely as advertised.

The heat is a 3.5 – 4 on the heat scale. And apparently there is a triple – x flavor out there as well. That flavor may require a “danger – flammable” sticker to be attached to the bag. A 10/10 in my opinion gentlemen. Two thumbs way up!!!👍👍”

Here is what Mark had to say about this Inferno-X beef jerky flavor from Jurassic Jerky: “Stephane and I agree with Paul. This jerky has plenty of flavor, and delivers on Carolina Reaper heat with just enough sweetness. This jerky was shared between 8 people, where most of the opinions were very positive. Here are the official ratings between the Group of Seven (Mark – 10, Paul – 10, Stephane – 10, Nolan – 9.5, Mark M. – N/A, Sid – 9, Ava – 7)”.

This 3 ounce/85 gram bag sells online for $9.45, which works out to $3.15 an ounce. That rates as an expensive price.

Excellent (10/10) – Taste Rating

Bag Review

This black resealable plastic bag has a label affixed to the front, and nothing on the back. The front displays a dinosaur skeleton and fire.

There are no slogans printed on this bag. This is mentioned “Made With Carolina Reaper The Hottest Pepper In The World”.

The only bag categories missing are providing a company web site, the jerky weight not stated in grams, and no blurb printed about Jurassic Jerky, or this Inferno-X flavor.

Decent (7/10) – Bag Rating
