Anneke (Bokkie) Breed was born in South Africa. Growing up Bokkie’s aunties and uncles used farm raised meats to make sausages and biltong. Bokkie immigrated to Canada with her family when she was 14 years old. Once they got established, they started buying local farm raised meats. One day Bokkie as her mentor, her dad, asked if she should open up a butcher shop. Always supportive of his daughter he said “Go for it Bokkie, let’s just do it, close your eyes and just go for it”. On October 8th, 2011, Bokkies Biltong opened it’s doors.

Bokkies Biltong – Chili Bites Beef Biltong
Written by guest jerky reviewer Paul Rekker
When I open the bag I smell nothing. The biltong is in a form or shape I’ve never seen before. It’s almost in the form of a rope. The pieces are long and rather thin, but the cut is thick, if that makes any sense. It is very dry and tough to chew, but that’s the way I love it. I typically just stick it in my mouth, suck on it like a candy briefly, in order to somewhat soften it up, thus making it easier to chew ultimately. There is quite obviously no oily residue left on your fingers.
The first flavors I encounter are the salt, at a spectacular level, next to no sweet, copious amounts of pepper, garlic, onion, and the perfect level of heat from the chili.
My oh my, my fellow biltong enthusiasts, you are in for a treat here. My taste buds are being inundated with this insanely delicious flavor of biltong. This jerky is ridiculously tasty. They say Crown Royal is the ‘Cadillac Of The Ryes’, well, ladies and gentlemen, this biltong is without a doubt the ‘Cadillac Of The Biltong’. D*mn, I just inhaled my last piece of the biltong, and tears are welling in my eyes. Bokkie’s Biltong is da Bomb!!
There are only three items that I would succumb to wearing a @&$(!?#%£€¥)@$ mask for, and in no particular order: beer, liquor and Bokkie’s chili biltong. Two thumbs way the futch up, a no mask wearing, no glove wearing, make my own decisions 10/10. 👍👍 Gentlemen?
Here is what Mark had to say about this chili bites beef biltong flavor from Bokkies Biltong: “Thanks Paul for the spirited taste review. Yes, this is a first in having biltong in a rope style. These ‘bites’ as they are referred to takes some effort to chew. One bite/rope in particular was hard to chew, but tasted so good, you chew anyway. When I mentioned to Paul that I am inclined to deduct a taste rating because of the tough texture, he almost fell over in disbelief.”
“While not often, I shared some of my portion with Paul. After finishing the biltong we had already planned on a day trip on Saturday to visit Bokkies Biltong for more biltong. Unfortunately, the trip did not come to fruition.”
“Due to COVID-19, this taste review was done with three members of the Group of Seven. Mark M. was at a solid 10 with the flavor, but he did mention the tough texture. Keep in mind that we could have done this review with freshly sliced soft and tender chili biltong. Our preference is bagged biltong with a much drier texture. A well-deserved Excellent (10/10) taste rating, and worthy of wearing a mask for if needed.”
This 3.5 ounce/100 gram bag of jerky sold for $11.99. That works out to $3.40 an ounce, which rates as an expensive price.

Bag Review
This non-resealable plastic bag has a label attached on the front. The thickness of this plastic bag is very thin, not being suited for long term storage.
There are no slogans printed on this bag. One fact printed on this bag is “Thank You For Shopping With Us Today”.
Some bag categories missing are a blurb about this biltong or business, company web site, a company logo, nutrition facts table, best before date, and French translations. Commendably, a phone number is provided for customer inquiries.
