This flavor is described as using Morita Chile Peppers from Mexico that are bold and smoky, yet fruitier than your average pepper. The jerky was graciously submitted for review by Co-Founder & Chief Creative Manager, Ashley Kohn.
Ingredient Review
100% Grass-Fed Beef and Grass Finished Beef, Organic Coconut Sugar, Water, Organic Coconut Sugar, Smoked Morita Peppers, Organic Coconut Vinegar, Sea Salt, Organic Garlic, Organic Matcha Tea, Organic Ginger, Organic Cardamom.
The beef used is 100% grass-fed beef sourced from Supply Background located in New Zealand. As a result, the cattle are guaranteed to have free range access to roam about. The beef is guaranteed to have been raised ethically, meaning not administered growth hormones or additional antibiotics. As a result, the highest ingredient rating possible is Excellent (10/10).
The liquid marinade is comprised of water, healthy organic coconut aminos, healthy organic matcha tea, and healthy organic coconut vinegar.
There are some healthy ingredients added, such as organic garlic and organic ginger. The heat is achieved from the smoked morita peppers, which are healthy if eaten in moderation.
The sugar level is at the acceptable upper limit of 4 grams of sugar per 28 grams of jerky for a spicy based flavor. Coconut sugar is used that has the lowest glycemic index for types of sugars. The salt level is acceptable at 280mg of salt per 28 grams of jerky, which uses healthy minimally processed sea salt.
This jerky qualifies to have no sodium nitrite or any other similar unhealthy preservative. With more kudos to PREVAIL Jerky, this jerky has no MSG added.

PREVAIL JERKY – SPICY 100% GRASS-FED BEEF JERKY

When I open the bag, I smell soy. So does my wife. The jerky is small to medium in size, and it’s sliced medium to thick. There is no real uniform size or thickness. The jerky is soft and chewy, and it leaves no oily residue on your fingers.
The first flavors I detect are salt, pepper, mildly sweet, garlic, natural beef, along with a mild kick. The spiciness is not shining through quite yet. Maybe it will increase over time.
As I consume more “strips” ( the lack of uniformity prompts me to put that word into quotations), I am detecting an increase in heat, just as advertised. This is a tasty little treat, and it is pretty much coming across as advertised.
Unfortunately, it is not blowing me away, but it duly satisfies my palette, good enough to warrant at least an 8/10, although I would not be opposed to a 9. Gentlemen?
Here is what Mark had to say about this spicy beef jerky flavor from PREVAIL Jerky: “Thanks Paul for the honest taste review. I tend to agree with everything you stated except that no soy is used in this product. The heat starts slowly and increases as you consume more strips to an adequate level. On a heat scale, the heat never exceeds a 2/5 on the heat scale.”
“This texture does qualify to be soft and tender. With that said, there is a slightly processed flavor from the beef. There is an omnipresent light fruity taste present. The sweetness level is a little high for my liking, but not enough to deduct a rating. Due to the lack of ‘wow’ factor, a Good (8/10) taste rating is warranted.”
This 2.25 ounce/64 gram bag of jerky sells online for $7.99. That works out to $3.55 an ounce, which barely rates at an expensive price for 100% grass-fed beef.
