Backattack Snacks officially launched their jerky brand in 2016 by husband and wife Brian and Lauren Back to provide consumers a healthy snack alternative without the need for a Ph.D. in chemistry to understand what they are eating. The way they make jerky is simple: no preservatives and no added processed sugars. No BS – only the best USDA choice Angus beef you can buy. Following this minimalist mantra, their original recipe beef jerky boasts amazing umami flavor (when all of your taste buds work together), the beef’s flavor can shine through. Call them crazy, but they believe beef jerky should taste like beef.
Owner Brian Back brings over 15 years of professional culinary experience, including Chef de Tournant, Saucier Chef, Marketing Chef, and Culinary Instructor throughout the Ohio region. Co-owner Lauren Back brings ten years of educational leadership and training experience to Backattack Snacks.
Their carne asada is simple and always Keto compliant. They don’t have to say this is the best beef jerky you’ve ever had because you’ll say it for them. Backattack Snacks is distributed under the same name as Backattack Snacks, and it is located in Brook Park, Ohio.
The next review on Backattack Snacks will focus on a 2.5 ounce/70 gram bag of their Carne Asada flavored Angus beef jerky. This flavor is described as having a splash of citrus, a dash of cilantro, and just a hint of cayenne pepper. Vice President Lauren Back graciously submitted this jerky for review.
Ingredient Review
Ingredients: Angus Beef, Orange Juice, Liquid Aminos (Vegetable Protein from Non-GMO Soybeans and Purified Water), Apple Cider Vinegar, Less Than 2% of: Garlic Powder, Lime Juice, Smoked Sea Salt, Cayenne Pepper, Paprika, Black Pepper, Cilantro, Cumin, Oregano. Allergen Warnings: Soy
The Angus beef used is ethically raised, meaning it is guaranteed to be free of growth hormones and additional antibiotics. The cattle have partial free range access to roam about and graze on grass the way nature intended. As a result, the highest ingredient rating that can be awarded is a Very Good (9/10) rating.
The liquid marinade is comprised of healthy but controversial liquid aminos, healthy orange juice, healthy lime juice, and super healthy apple cider vinegar.
Some healthy ingredients are added, such as oregano, paprika, black pepper, cilantro, and cumin, oregano, garlic powder,
The light heat is achieved from chili powder and cayenne pepper, which are healthy if eaten in moderation.
The sugar level is great at less than 1 grams of sugar per 28 grams of jerky. The salt level is high at 480mg of salt per 28 grams of jerky. However, the salt level is ignored as healthy, minimally processed smoked sea salt is used as opposed to highly refined table salt.
This jerky qualifies to have no sodium nitrite, or any other similar unhealthy preservatives added. Instead, minimally processed smoked sea salt is the main preservative. Admirably, this jerky does qualify to have no MSG added.

BACKATTACK SNACKS – CARNE ASADA BEEF JERKY
Written by guest jerky reviewer Paul Rekker
When I open the bag I smell lemon or lime, soy, and vinegar. The jerky strips are large in size, and they are sliced rather thick. The jerky is somewhere between hard and soft, and there is no oily residue left on your fingers handling these strips.
The first flavors I encounter are salt, lemon/lime, pepper, garlic, next to no sweet (awesome), soy, vinegar, and copious amounts of natural beef. I have yet to pick up on the spice. As I consume more, I am now starting to pick up on a slight kick in the background.
These strips are quite large, so as I near the end of my first strip, the spice is beginning to rear its very tasty head.
Wow!! The more I eat, the spicier it gets, and the tastier it gets!! Beads of sweat are formulating on my brow!! It’s not an intense heat, but it sure is one d*mn tasty heat!!
Backattack snacks, or Snackattack backs, or snack backattack, punchmeinthesack, slapmeintheback, crackmeuptheshzack, enough already, I’m sold!! Grab me more of that whatevertheheckyouwannacallit, I WANT THAT!!!!
10 x 10 x 10/10 gentlemen. Doesn’t that mathematically make this jerky a 1000/10? Sounds accurate to me!!🤪😜😆😀😁😎👍👍👍👍👍👍
Here is what Mark had to say about this carne asada beef jerky flavor from Backattack Snacks: “Thanks Paul for the enthusiastic taste review. Hard to argue with you here. Carne Asada, to me, is one of the most interesting jerky flavors out there. Not necessarily a complaint but an observation that many carne asada flavors have visible cilantro flakes on the strips, but that is not the case here. The orange and lime juice are on point. The cilantro, paprika, black pepper, cilantro, and oregano add depth to this terrific taste profile. I too loved this flavor and struggled not to inhale the entire bag in one sitting.”
“Take a bow Backattack Snacks. You have another winner here. A unanimous no-doubter Excellent (10/10) taste rating will be awarded. A very enthusiastic two thumbs up!!👍👍”
This 2.5 ounce/70 gram bag of jerky sells online for $13.00, which works out to $5.20 an ounce. That rates at a very expensive price.

Bag Review
This clear resealable bag has labels attached to both the front and back. The Backattack Snacks logo states that they were established in 2015.
A slogan printed on this bag is “High Quality Snacks”. Some facts printed on this bag are “Premium Hand Crafted”, “Minimally Processed”, “No Artificial Ingredients”, Gluten Free”, “No Preservatives”, “Sugar Free”, and “Backattack Beef Jerky Unopened, Has a 1-Year Shelf Life”.
The only missing bag categories is a soy allergen alert. There is an excellent blurb printed on the back describing Backattack Snacks and this flavor. Commendably, a phone number is provided for customer inquiries.
This bag could rate as a 7 bag rating with the missing allergen alert. However, this bag has such a simple, beautiful clean look, a Good (8/10) bag rating will be awarded.
