Ingredient Review
Ingredients: Beef, Soy Sauce (Water, Wheat, Soybeans, Salt), Sesame Seeds, Sesame Oil, Black Pepper, Garlic, Crushed Red Chilies, Sodium Nitrite. Allergen Warnings: Soy, Wheat, Sesame
Sierra Madre Provision Co. uses ranch raised beef, which means the cattle have free range access to graze on grass. The cattle are also ethically raised, meaning that the cows receive no growth hormones or additional antibiotics. As a result, the ingredient rating starts at a Very Good (9/10) rating.
The liquid marinade used here contains a decent brand of soy sauce and super healthy sesame oil.
Some healthy ingredients added are crushed chili peppers, sesame seeds, black pepper, and garlic.
The sugar level is high at 8 grams of sugar per 28 grams of jerky to lose a rating. Our preference is 5 grams of sugar or less for a sweet based flavor. The salt level is somewhat high at 450mg of salt per 28 grams of jerky to lose another rating. Our preference is 350mg of salt or less per 28 grams of jerky.
This jerky does not qualify to be sodium nitrite free, as sodium nitrite is used outright as a preservative to lose a rating. Admirably, there is no MSG added.
Alright (6/10) – Ingredient Rating

SIERRA MADRE PROVISIONS CO. – KOREAN BBQ BEEF JERKY
Written by guest jerky reviewer Paul Rekker
When I open the bag I immediately smell the typical odor of the Korean BBQ flavor, which is basically vinegar/BBQ. The pieces of jerky are two small and one large, sliced to a medium thickness. It is slightly oily, and it leaves a slight oily residue on your fingers.
When I bite into the jerky I immediately taste the salt, at a decent level, sweet, but well within reason, pepper, at a good level, along with a not so slight kick, not sure which spice is enhancing the flavor. There are also sesame seeds on this jerky, and I must admit, although I am not a fan of sesame seeds, they don’t really play much into this flavor.
I must say, this Korean BBQ flavor is most definitely a cut above your typical Korean BBQ flavor, so, as I can find no reasons for deductions, I am therefore inclined to rate this particular flavor a 10/10.
Here is what Mark had to say about this Korean Barbecue beef jerky flavor from Sierra Madre Provision Co. “Thanks Paul for the positive taste review. I agree with everything stated except that Korean BBQ does not really smell like barbecue sauce and is more like soy sauce. There is a light level present from the sesame seeds and oil. As Paul stated, while sweet tasting, the sweetness is at a reasonable level. The crushed red peppers were a welcome surprise but at a light level of spiciness.”
“As another welcome surprise, the beef contained some fat, which enhanced the natural beef flavor, which is at a good level to begin with. The overall taste profile pretty much tastes exactly how a Korean BBQ flavor should taste. I too have zero complaints and finished off my portion in no time. A unanimous, well-deserved Excellent (10/10) taste rating will be awarded. A very enthusiastic two thumbs up!!👍👍”
This 3 ounce/85 gram bag sells online for $7.99, which works out to $2.65 an ounce. That rates as a cheap price. Free shipping is offered on orders over $49.99.

Bag Review
This is a relatively tall, resealable bag. The front is gold, and the back is silver, with nothing on the back. A label is affixed to the front, but nothing is on the back. The scenic picture on this bag depicts mountains, including a few California palm trees.
There are no slogans or facts printed on this bag.
Some missing bag categories are a blurb about Sierra Madre Provision Co. and a missing sesame allergen alert. Kudos to Sierra Madre Provision Co., where they provide a toll-free phone number for customer inquiries.
