Kevin and his two brothers Shawn and Terry, run the store, making this a family-run store. All of their meats and other products come from families in the local farming community. Their store is a traditional “Bavarian” looking European meat shop, where you can see into every workspace in their production facility so that you can see them making the products you’re taking home. Stemmler Meats is manufactured and distributed under the same name as Stemmler Meats, and it is based out of Heidelberg, Ontario, which is near the Waterloo area.
The next review on Stemmler Meats will focus on a 3 ounce/42 gram bag of their hot flavour. This jerky was purchased at the Stemmler Meats store in Heidelberg, Ontario, Canada.
Ingredient Review
Ingredients: Beef, Reverse Osmosis Water, Sugar, Corn Syrup Solids, Salt, Hydrolyzed Plant Protein (from Soy), Onion, Garlic, Cayenne, Crushed Chili Peppers, Dextrose, Sodium Erythorbate, Sodium Nitrite, Maple Smoke. Allergen Warnings: Soy
The beef that Stemmler Meats sources from local farms is ethically raised, meaning no growth hormones or additional antibiotics are given to the cattle. The cows also have free range access to graze on grass. As a result, the highest ingredient rating awarded is a Very Good (9/10) rating.
The only liquid used in the marinade is reverse osmosis water. It is impressive to see that a filtered type of water is used.
Som healthy ingredients listed are onion and garlic. The spiciness of this jerky comes from the cayenne pepper and the crushed chili peppers, which are healthy if eaten in moderation.
The sugar level is acceptable at 2 grams of sugar per 28 grams of jerky. The salt level is high at 490mg of salt per 28 grams of jerky to lose a rating. Our preference is 350mg of salt or less per 28 grams of jerky.
This jerky uses both sodium erythorbate and sodium nitrite as preservatives to lose a rating. Kevin has assured us that the erythorbate content is only a few parts per million. The highly processed flavour enhancer hydrolyzed plant protein is used to lose another rating.
Alright (6/10) – Ingredient Rating
Taste Review
Written by guest jerky reviewer Paul Rekker
When I open the bag, I smell soy and possibly pineapple juice. The jerky strips are large, and they are sliced rather thin. The jerky is hard and dry, just like our forefathers intended, and they leave no oily residue on your fingers.
The first flavours I detect are salt and pepper, both at good levels, along with garlic, soy, and pineapple juice.
Well oh well, Mr. Stemmler, you have not disappointed, along comes the heat, and boy oh boy, hot and spicy it most definitely is.
We tried Stemmler’s jerky (various flavours) a long time ago, back when we were just starting, and we loved it then, and I love it now, all over again.
I cannot find any fault whatsoever with this jerky, it is hitting on all cylinders. A most well-deserved 10/10. Gentlemen?
Here is what Mark had to say about this hot beef jerky flavour from Stemmler Meats: “Thanks Paul for the great taste review. Yes, good to have Stemmler Meats back since 2014. Hard to argue with anything that you stated. The level of heat is at a great level without going overboard.”
“I too can find no issues with this flavour, which is addictive as heck. The thin texture gives you the illusion that you have more jerky than you actually have, more strips, or in this case larger strips. A most well-deserved Excellent (10/10) taste rating is warranted. Two thumbs way up!!!👍👍”
You can purchase a 3 ounce/85 gram bag for $6.99 at Stemmler Meats. That works out to $2.33 an ounce, which would rate at a cheap price.

Bag Review
We have a non-resealable, clear plastic bag here enclosed by a black tray. There is a label affixed to both the front and back of this bag. This bag is vacuum-sealed, the best way to keep jerky fresh tasting.
Some slogans printed on this bag are “Only the Best from our Family to Yours”, “est. 1985”, and “European Style – Imported Cheeses – Quality Meats”. A fact printed on this bag is “Gluten MSG Lactose Free”.
The only missing bag categories are no distributor address details provided. As per Canadian law, French translations are provided. A QR Code is displayed that redirects to the Stemmler Meats website.
