Wild Sky – Original 100% Grass-Fed Beef Stick

Sunday, March 11, 2018 1 Comment

Wild Sky - Original 100% Grass-Fed Beef StickThe next review on Wild Sky will focus on a 1 ounce/28 gram bag of their original flavored 100% grass-fed beef stick. This beef stick was kindly submitted for review by their Inside Sales representative, Ian Damon.

Wild Sky beef jerky is distributed by Montana Prairie Holdings, and it is located in Bozeman, Montana. Wild Sky is an innovate company launched in 2014, and created by American Prairie Reserve. Their mission is to support wildlife-friendly ranching through the sale of premium beef. This business model conserves wildlife, and contributes to economic activity in Montana’s rural Northern Great Plains. The overarching goal of American Prairie Reserve is to restore and conserve an abundance of extraordinary diverse wildlife to Montana’s Northern Great Plains, which the region once hosted.

Ingredient Review

Ingredients: Grass-Fed Beef, Water, Sea Salt, Brown Sugar, Encapsulated Citric Acid, Celery Juice Powder, Black Pepper, Granulated Garlic, Coriander, Onion Powder, in Beef Collagen Casing.

Wild Sky - Original 100% Grass-Fed Beef StickThe 100% grass-fed beef used is sourced from the U.S., with profits flowing back to Wild Sky Ranchers in Montana who practice wildlife-friendly ranching. These ranchers practice something known as a Freese Scale, which measures nine different ecological processes, each of which is given a 1-7 rating. Annually these Freese Scale ratings are studied, reviewed by a third-party entity and management identifies what areas of each ranch needs attention.

Wild Sky - Original 100% Grass-Fed Beef StickThe jerky qualifies to be ethically raised, meaning no growth hormones or additional antibiotics are given. Also, the cattle used in this jerky qualifies to have free range access to roam about and graze on grass, the way nature intended.

The only liquid used is plain old water.

Some healthy ingredients are added such as black pepper, onion powder, coriander, and granulated garlic.

The sugar level is excellent at 0 grams of sugar rounded off per 28 grams of jerky. The salt level is acceptable at 350mg of salt per 28 grams of jerky.

This jerky qualifies to have no sodium nitrite, or any other similar unhealthy preservative. Instead, organic salt is the main preservative used, and citric acid to a lesser degree. With more kudos to Wild Sky, this jerky has no MSG added.

Excellent (10/10) – Ingredient Rating

Taste Review

Written by guest jerky reviewer Stéphane Leclerc

Here at www.jerkyingredients.com, we all work like a well-oiled Swiss time clock and this review is another good example. It’s not brain science and it doesn’t take rocket surgery to figure it out, we already knew!

As always, we each reviewed our portions separately and as I gathered the Wild Sky – Original 100% Grass-Fed Beef Stick results, I interestingly noticed our opinions, comments and reviews were almost exact carbon copies of each other.

First off, this beef stick has such a beautiful and inviting aroma, it’s like no other beef stick out there. I personally like the aroma so much; I am considering having a piece of this meat stick braided in my mustache.

And on with the review, we were all very impressed with this amazing flavor. We all felt it was nearly impossible not to devour the entire meat stick in a heartbeat.

The taste of the beef along with its delicious blend of seasonings is outstanding. There is no single flavor jumping out at first other than a bright and moderate sourness or vinegary taste. The natural flavor of beef is unmistakable as it should with any great Original flavor. The quality of this Grass Fed beef is obvious in its aroma and in each and every bite. This beef stick is clean tasting and hits the mark “Bang ON”.

The saltiness and sweetness are at a light level while the black pepper, onion, and garlic are also at light to faint levels. The coriander paired with a desirable sourness make the flavors “POP” and gives this meat snack an exciting brightness and freshness. They also complement this flavor profile very well and tie or round these flavors to perfection.

This 6” beef stick is quite soft, tender and easy to chew. There are no signs at all of being greasy or oily. Since the casing is made of beef collagen, there is unfortunately no snap or bite while taking a bite out of this stick. The meat is a lighter shade in comparison to the usual run of the mill big brand beef sticks.

Overall, this is a very tasty treat with a well rounded balance of flavors. This highly enjoyable stick is anything but boring. As previously mentioned, it has taken each of us some restraint not to devour this entire meat stick in under a minute. It’s also kind of funny that unknowingly to each other, we all tried to stretch out the chewing to maximize the enjoyment for as long as possible.

I highly recommend this outstanding Wild Sky – Original 100% Grass-Fed Beef Stick, it is spot on and without question belongs in a class above. We unanimously gave this Original 100% grass-fed beef stick an enthusiastic 10/10 taste rating.

A 12 pack of 1 ounce/28 gram beef sticks sells on Amazon for $21.99, which works out to $1.83 an ounce. That would rate as an average price.

Excellent (10/10) – Taste Rating

Bag Review

This plastic bag has a label on the front, and nothing on the back. The bag is vacuum sealed, the best way to keep a beef stick fresh tasting. This Wild Sky logo has the word Wild in the backdrop of a cloud.

A slogan printed on this bag is “Supporting Wildlife-Friendly Ranching”. Some facts printed on this bag are “Beef Used is Grass-Fed”, and “Gluten-Free”.

The only bag category missing is a nutrition facts table. In fairness, there is no room on this label to fit a nutrition facts table.

Good (8/10) – Bag Rating
