In 1997, a band of three young, small-time crooks developed a recipe for a highly potent substance that went by the street name “Jerky”. Within weeks, jerky flooded the streets of Chester Counter, PA. The gang was moving 10 kilos a week – pushing in the back alleys, the street corners, and the recess yards. Supply couldn’t keep up with demand, and the boys got sloppy. In the fall of ’98, a deal went awry in the ninth grade hallway bathroom when a teacher caught the boy’s mid-chew. The three received four harrowing hours of after-school detention without parole.
While on the inside, they conspired with a cellmate who went by the name of “G-off”, a notorious carnivore known for two things: a distribution network that stretched from Brazil to British Columbia and an insatiable thirst for meat. It was this unlikely cellmate-ship that would ultimately change the course of jerky trafficking and American history forever. This Righteous Felon jerky brand is distributed under the name Righteous Felon, LLC., and it is located in West Chester, Pennsylvania.
The next review on Righteous Felon will focus on a 1 ounce/28 gram bag of Fiery Habanero flavored beef stick. This flavor is described as having a base immersed in an abundance of habanero & cayenne pepper with hints of garlic, chili powder, onion, and sea salt. The bag was purchased at an Ollie’s discount store in Niagara Falls, New York.
Ingredient Review
Ingredients: Beef, Water, Sea Salt, Contains 2% or less of Brown Sugar, Encapsulated Citric Acid, Cultured Celery Powder (Celery Powder, Sea Salt), Red Pepper, Liquid Smoke, Dried Habanero Flakes, Black Pepper, Granulated Garlic, Onion Powder, Cherry Powder, Coriander, Ground Rosemary, Chili Powder, Habanero Powder, Ground Clove, in Colored Collagen Casing.
This beef is ethically raised, meaning it is guaranteed to be free of growth hormones and additional antibiotics. The cattle are guaranteed to have some free range access to roam about and graze on grass the way nature intended. As a result, the highest ingredient rating that can be awarded is a Very Good (9/10) rating.
There are many healthy ingredients added, such as red pepper, black pepper, granulated garlic, onion powder, cherry powder, coriander, ground rosemary, chili powder, habanero powder, and ground clove. The heat is achieved from habanero flakes, habanero powder, and chili powder.
The sugar level is low at 1 gram of sugar per 28 grams of beef stick. The salt level is a little high at 390mg of salt per 28 grams of meat stick. However, the salt level is ignored because healthy, minimally processed sea salt is used.
The artificial color red #40, red #3, or an equivalent is likely used in the collagen casing to lose a rating.
As advertised, this jerky does qualify to have no sodium nitrite or any other similar unhealthy preservatives. Instead, the main preservatives used are sea salt and to a lesser extent cultured celery powder. Admirably, there is no MSG added.

RIGHTEOUS FELON – FIERY HABANERO BEEF STICK
Written by guest jerky reviewer Paul Rekker
When I bite open the meat stick I immediately smell soy and nothing else. The meat stick is the same shape and hue as most other meat sticks. It is quite soft and pliable, and it is rather moist. There is an oily residue left on your fingers.
When I bite into the meat stick I taste salt at a decent level, minimal sweetness, which is also a good thing. I taste garlic and onion in the background. As I consume more the heat starts to kick in. It is at a decent level. Progressively, as I consume more of the meat stick, the heat increases exponentially.
I must admit that this meat stick is ever improving in both flavor and heat as I consume more. I am duly sweating now, the heat has taken charge.
Suffice it to say, this meat stick has turned out to be just exactly as advertised. Therefore, anything less than a 10/10 would do this meat stick a great injustice. Kudos to Righteous Felon, they have produced a quality tasting meat stick here.
Here is what Mark had to say about this Fiery Habanero beef stick flavor from Righteous Felon: “Thanks Paul for the positive taste review. I agree with everything stated except for the smell of soy, where there is none. This flavor lives up to its name, which would rate a 3 out of 4 on the scale. The overall flavor profile is complex, with a myriad of different flavors and tastes delicious. A unanimous Excellent (10/10) taste rating will be awarded. Take a bow Righteous Felon, a very enthusiastic two thumbs up!!👍👍”
This 1 ounce/28 gram bag of beef stick sold for $1.49, which equates to $1.49 an ounce. That rates as a cheap price.
Excellent (10/10) – Taste Rating

This bag has everything imprinted on it, both on the front and back. There are no labels affixed to this bag. There is an illustration of a cow wearing a sombrero and sunglasses.
